Aldeia Verde: Strengthening Indigenous Autonomy in Abya Yala

We’re honored to highlight and support the incredible work of the Instituto Etnoambiental e Multicultural Aldeia Verde (IEMAV) — an organization deeply rooted in ancestral wisdom and committed to sustainable development for Indigenous peoples across Brazil.

Led by the inspiring anthropologist Cláudia Franco — a passionate indigenista with over 25 years of experience — Aldeia Verde strengthens Indigenous autonomy through initiatives that combine traditional knowledge with contemporary environmental science.

With a master’s degree in environmental planning and management, Cláudia has worked alongside the Brazilian federal government and civil society since 2000, advancing Indigenous self-determination through participatory governance, local leadership, and community-led planning processes such as consultation protocols, territorial and environmental management plans, and life plans. You can follow her work on Instagram.

About Aldeia Verde

The Instituto Etnoambiental e Multicultural Aldeia Verde (IEMAV) envisions a continent where Indigenous peoples lead conservation, education, and equitable development — grounded in mutual respect and cultural diversity.

Their mission focuses on:
🌿 Preservation of ecosystems, languages, and traditions, ensuring that development aligns with Indigenous values and territories.
👩🏽‍🌾 Empowering Indigenous women, recognizing their central role in community governance, education, health, and economic decision-making.
🌎 Integrating ancestral knowledge and contemporary science, fostering resilience and sustainability.
🪇 Strengthening regional solidarity, encouraging collaboration among Indigenous communities throughout Latin America.

These principles of autonomy, dignity, gender equity, and ecological balance are not only essential for Indigenous well-being — they’re essential for the planet’s future.

At OGA, we are proud to stand beside Aldeia Verde and fully support their mission. We are also looking for partners who share this vision of regenerative collaboration and intercultural respect.
